Bridge Brewing Black Rye IPA Review Bridge Brewing Co. – Black Rye IPA Review

Bridge Brewing has moved their brewery slightly West to their new location off of Mountain Highway in North Vancouver. With this move comes a new release called the Black Rye India Pale Ale. This dark twist on the IPA style also brings rye into the equation for what is surely a dark and spicy, well hopped brew. The beer emerges from the bottle as a thick, pitch black colour topped with three full fingers of dense, thick and heavily lacing head. The Black Rye smells of chocolate malts and a northwest, style piney hop.  The Rye notes give a hearty spice to the mix and seems to make for a slightly heavier smelling beer. The flavour in this beer is rather intense. A bitter, cocoa note comes in at the front with a sharpness from the rye spice. As this progresses the big, northwest Amarillo and Cascade hops give a strong piney bitterness which envelops the palate. The bitter tones in this black IPA are bigger than typical of the style while the Rye notes bump it up another octave. Although relatively low in alcohol this beer is strong, intense and offers something a little different that typical. If you like dark and hoppy beers with a kick to them the Black Rye India Pale Ale from Bridge Brewing Company is an option that you should not miss out on.
