4 Mile Brewing Pale Ale Review Four Mile Brewing Co. – Old 39 Pale Ale Review

The 4 Mile Pub has been in business since 1858 but it is only in 2014 that an on site brewery has been opened. One of the initial products to be released is the Old 39 Pale Ale. This beer comes bottled in an elegant and sophisticated 650ml bomber bottle and is starting to arrive at select craft retailers outside of Victoria. The Old 39 Pale Ale pours an amber colour topped with nearly three fingers of thick and lacing head. The beer smells of a creamy and delicious hop along with grapefruit tones, caramel and a touch of passionfruit. The aroma coming from this west coast Pale Ale is nothing less than tantalizing. The Old 39’s flavour start by presenting a mid-bodied ale with a mid-hop bitterness, grapefruit-citrus notes and a caramel bitter-sweetness which ends in a dryer than expected package. The flavour is not as big as the nose in this flavourful but sessionable Pale Ale making for a beer that is no where close to the deep end but remains an approachable and pleasant tasting Pale Ale.

That isn’t carmel you taste, that is diacetyl, many of the beers from this brewer are laden with diacetyl
