Moon Under Water Brewery – Island Berry Harvest Weizen Review
In the harvest series of beers coming from Victoria’s Moon Under Water Brewery is the Island Berry Harvest Weizen. This beer is brewed using a cocktail of local strawberries, Blackberries and Raspberries in a tribute to local and seasonal flavour. The Island Berry pours into the glass an opaque peach-amber colour with a very thin finger of head which settles rather quickly but leaves slight signs of lacing behind. From this uniquely coloured and hazy beer comes an aroma of a sweet and sour berry richness. The strawberry sweetness is out front with a bit of tartness from the raspberries along side. Behind the berry front is a wheat base along with a tough of coriander on the nose. The flavour here is not as sweet as you may expect. The start builds with a sour start that melds into a sweetened strawberry centre. Blackberries do not give a prominent flavour but add to the overall package. Raspberries add to the strawberry sweetness with some added sour to balance the package. As the flavour progresses the wheat content builds along with a vanilla smoothness which settles the fruit giving a balance of sweet, sour and a solid German weizen to hold it all together. This beer has a lot going into it with three types of berries but emerges a balanced and enjoyable summer beer.
