Phillips Brewing 13 Knots in a hangman's noose Hop Drop IPA ReviewPhillips Brewing Co. Releases Hop Drop Liqueur

September 2nd VICTORIA BC— Over the past number years Phillips Brewing Co. has made a habit of celebrating their anniversary the best way they know how: by exploring the full breadth of their hop addiction and creating some of the biggest IPA’s they could. To celebrate their 13th Anniversary they have crafted another monster IPA called 13 Knots in a Hangman’s Noose, and hung a very special gift around its neck…

Hop Drop is an artisanal hop liqueur crafted to celebrate the classic hop flavours the Phillips team infuses into their brews! Real hops are transformed into an incredibly potent elixir where explosions of fresh pine and bright bitterness are balanced in a blanket of soft sweetness. Its depth of flavour is robust enough to enjoy on its own poured gently over ice, or it can be ‘dropped’ into another beer to instantly raise the ABV and infuse the brew with bright, hoppy flavours.

Hop Drop is distilled under the newly minted Phillips Fermentorium umbrella. For founder Matt Phillips creating a hop spirit was a natural step for a brewery so focused on hoppy flavours in their beer: “It’s in our DNA to be expressing hops any way we can. Hop Drop is not departure from beer, but an extension of the hop centered creativity that the brewery was built on.” It’s a claim underlined by the as a 45mL on-pack to their 13th Anniversary Double IPA bomber. The team crafted an IPA to 11.9% (which is the maximum alcohol percentage allowed for beer under B.C. liquor regulations), and designed the 45mL Hop Drop to not only inject a bright hop punch, but jump the alcohol to match the anniversary year at 13% as well.

Hop Drop is exclusively available as an on-pack to the Anniversary Ale, but the team has plans to eventually produce it in two sizes: 200mL bottles and 50mL vials. According to Phillips the decision to go to small bottles was a calculated one: “It’s a tip of the cap to our hop brethren who know how delicate that [hop] flavour is. We designed Hop Drop to be opened and enjoyed in one sitting, not to gather dust on the liquor cabinet.” Stay tuned to Phillips social media channels for more info on Hop Drop release.
