Dead Frog Brewery Furious Friar Belgian IPA Review

Dead Frog Brewery – Furious Friar Belgian IPA Review

Dead Frog as a whole has undergone quite the facelift over the past year and with that the Furious Friar Belgian IPA has entered the lineup. This is not a new beer but rather a re-brand of the former Valiant Belgian IPA that we saw last year. While the recipe has not technically changed the beer is very similar to last year but as with any brew slight differences in the brewing process will amount to slight variances in flavour. The Furious Friar pours from the bottle a lightly clouded, golden colour with two fingers of thick and dense head. The head settles quite slowly leaving a thick layer of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass. From this Belgian style IPA comes a strong, piney-citrus hop, notes of mango and passion fruit and a slight booziness to it. From the nose this appears to be a big, bold and fruity, Northwest style IPA. The flavour is bug with citrus and tropical fruit tones coming in strong right off the bat. A Belgian-yeast tone also builds rather early on in the flavour before a piney, northwest style hop builds with a booziness along side as the taste progresses. This is a fairly boozy Belgian IPA with BC written all over it. Big tropical fruit tones and a piney hop to go with it this is a great beer that if you are not careful will leave you face down on the floor.

I was rather dissapointed on this one personally, way too sweet for my liking and missing the spicy cloves that make Belgian IPA’s normally so awesome. I like their other stuff, just not this one.
