Tree Brewing Co. – Mellow Moon Pineapple Hefeweizen Review
Tree Brewing knows what Summer is all about being situated in the always beautiful Okanagan. Kelowna BC is the specific location and with the hot summers that come with this inland home drives a push for summer, sessionable beers. Fruit is at the heart of the Okanagan and while pineapple may not be of a local variety, the Mellow Moon Pineapple Hefeweizen fits right at home in the mix of fruity, summer beers. This Hefeweizen comes in a 6-pack of 355ml cans and appears a hazy-golden colour topped with two fingers of relatively dense, lightly lacing head. The Mellow Moon smells strongly of wheat and pineapple sweetness. Rather sweet and fruity, the beer’s aroma very refreshing! The flavour is light with a citrus-wheat start to the flavour. As the taste evolves the citrus start begins to fade making way for pineapple flavours to grow. As the finish approaches pineapple becomes the main stage and while sweetness is apparent through the entire profile it is not as big as you may think. Pineapple can be very sweet and overpowering but here it is enough to be known while leaving the German Hefeweizen notes to shine as well. This may not be a beer that you will drink all day but a can or two by the lake will make for a great afternoon!
