Overview

VCBW Collaboration Ale - PrevAle Review  The 2014 Vancouver Craft Beer Week, or VCBW signature beer is the PrevAle. This collaboration beer was spearheaded by Central City Brewery‘s Gary Lohin and Phillips Brewery‘s Matt Philips. The list of brewers involved prevails however being 32 members strong. The list of breweries throwing a hand into this BC collaboration can be seen below this article. It is also well worth noting that $1 from every bottle sold of this beer is donated to the Music Heals Foundation – a very worthy BC cause.

With great collaboration comes great expectations and this year’s VCBW signature PrevAle is no exception. From the Hip-Hop inspired bottle comes a beer that appears a golden-amber colour and is topped with two fingers of head. The head appears loose and settles rather quickly leaving the glass almost clean of any lacing. Through the settling head comes a malt forward ale with mild sweetness and a touch of hop. For being a relatively mild smelling ale it does have a bit of an alcoholic kick to it. The flavour too has a solid mated base and a very enjoyable sweetness tied to it. Mild caramelization, mellow but forward hop and a slightly creamy texture in a relatively full bodied package makes for a very unique and rather enjoyable beer. If you want to get technical here the PrevAle is actually a Double California Common which given the flavours helps to explain why it is so delicious!
