Overview

Granville Island Brewing Co. – Shipload of Hops Imperial IPA

Granville Island Brewery Shiploads of Hops Imperial IPA ReviewGranville Island has brought a seasonal Imperial IPA to market and it is called the Shipload of Hops. As a part of the Black Note Book Series this beer is packed full of hops at 100 IBU and at a high 8.7%. This Imperial IPA pours a crisp amber colour topped with a thick finger of lacing head. The Shipload smells of creamy hops but not with an overpowering bitterness like you may expect. There is also a touch of booze to the nose forecasting a high alcohol brew. The flavour is smooth with a bite. The imperial nature of the beer gives a  creamy texture while the high alcohol gives a sharpness. Both of these aspects mellow an underlying hop bitterness along with a mid-sweetness and a light dried-fruit tone. Overall this is a big imperial IPA with slightly mellower notes than you might expect!
