Vancouver Craft Beer Week is Back With Some Bling for 2014!

Vancouver’s week of wonder for craft beer drinkers comes in the 9 day package that we call Vancouver Craft Beer Week. This year, the event spans from May 30th until June 7th, 2014 and takes place through 12 signature events. The  theme for VCBW is a throwback to the days of hip-hop, gold chains and the hay-day of break dancing. Pull the parachute pants out of storage, unroll the break dancing mat and get ready for an amazing week of BC Craft Beer!

Signature The Peak Presents VCBW Opening Night hosted by Prevail!

102.7 The Peak proudly presents VCBW 2014 opening night. The top of the hops, the beast of the yeast, not our fault if you don’t love malt – best damn party we’ve ever thrown! Join Prevail Prevail of Swollen Members, DJ Flipout, the Hip Hop Karaoke All Stars, and 20 of the craft brewing industries finest as they kick off this year’s festivities. Your $49 ticket gets you entertainment, unlimited craft beer samples (Serving It Right rules do apply), a souvenir VCBW tasting glass, and door prizes for the those dressed in their hip hop best. Signature New Belgium vs Steamworks Collaboration Throw Down!

What’s more hip hop that a collaboration? Back in March New Belgium & Steamworks embarked on their very first collaboration brew, in honour of that we’re proud to be hosting the New Belgium vs Steamworks Collaboration Throw Down! The Bimini will be tapping 12 amazing beers from New Belgium and 10 amazing beers from Steamworks including their very special Collaboration Golden Ale on May 31 at noon. Your ticket gets you access to taste & enjoy all of them – all day! This two brewery tap takeover will be hosted by both the BeerThirst & Steamworks teams, Chef Alan will be sampling some of his new pizza creations, and The Bimini kitchen will be open for service all day long!

Join us for a night of Rare Brews & BBQ featuring limited release or never before seen beers from 10 local breweries (Dead Frog, Parallel 49, Steamworks, Bomber, Deep Cove, Hoyne, Red Truck, Moon Under Water, Driftwood, and Longwood ). These beers will be featured on tap, infused or by the cask. While you savour these rare brews enjoy a selection of locally sourced meats Barbequed by Chef AJ Jackson.

Feature Pumphouse’s 35th Birthday Celebration

The Pumphouse Taproom is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a US Craft Beer Tap Takeover & Homebrewer’s Contest. 30+ US Craft Breweries on tap at $3 a glass. Tickets cost $10 and include shuttle service from the Landsdowne Mall Skytrain Station and anywhere in Richmond. Are you a homebrewer? Submit your homebrew by May 29th for a chance to win the Elysian Homebrewing Contest. The winner recieves a trip to Seattle to brew their own beer at Elysian Brewing.

In the world of hip hop, the only true way to find out who reigns supreme is to battle! With this in mind, 10 of BC’s premier breweries are throwing down to find out who brews the best damn IPA on the market in a blind, winner-take-all competition. Who is the top of the hops? You decide! Your $20 ticket gets you entry, a souvenir tasting glass, three beer tokens, entertainment provided by the infamous Jheric b-boy crew, and a vote in deciding BC’s best IPA. Ever played bingo and thought, “Man, this would be amazing if I had a couple cold craft beers to liven things up!”? Enter Craft Beer Bingo! A VCBW annual tradition, the Belgian Beer Showcase at BierCraft Bistro is a celebration of the great craft brewing tradition of Belgium. The event will feature a wide cross section of Belgian beer styles from the old world and the new. Abbey ales, Trappistes, saisons, strong blondes, strong darks, Flemish reds. The list goes on. So grab a glass and enjoy a journey of the palette and the history of beer itself. This event is ALL INCLUSIVE!

Feature Hyper Local

6 beer, 6 courses, $66! Join three of the Yeast Van districts finest at Merchants Oyster Bar for the Hyper Local event. A very limited number of tickets will be released to what is sure to be one of the most talked about VCBW dinners in years. Storm Brewing, Powell Street Craft Brewery, and Parallel 49 Brewing Company’s Brewmasters will have their beers expertly paired with the finest offerings from Commercial Drive’s own community gardens, Ocean Wise seafood, and Fraser Valley meat.


Signature Battle of the Bartenders Beer Cocktail Competition III

Tuesday June 3 6:00pm-Late 20 (+ taxes & fees)

Ten of Vancouver’s Top Bartenders will square off at The Blackbird with only bar tools and their imagination to create a beer-cocktail using one feature Craft beer. Annual bragging rights and a Craft beer focused prize are on the line. Attendees will judge draught versions of each cocktail made by the competitors, with their votes determining the people’s choice award. Your $20 ticket includes cocktail samples, beer samples, & canapés.

Wildebeest – Vancouver’s ‘best new restaurant 2013′ – presents an evening of deliciousness from la belle province – les bons vivants will enjoy six impeccable satisfying courses of Québécois fare as seen through Wildebeest’s carnivorous prism, each paired with a different beer from 3 of Quebec’s finest craft breweries. Le Trou Du Diable, Dieu Du Ciel, and Les Trois Mousquetaires are producing some of Canada’s most delicious beers, and we’re honoured to be pouring some of their special releases in the company of a very special brewmaster. Pourhouse & Friends have teamed up again to showcase what they do best: award-winning beers, a delicious family-style dinner, and the high-end service you’ve come to expect from one of Gastown’s favorite hang-outs.

This year’s spread is a 4-course experience featuring a creative menu from head chef Jean-Christophe Poirier with beers from Driftwood Brewing, 33 Acres Brewing, Derrick Franche (Whistler Brewhouse), and Dageraad Brewing. These plates are a perfect pairing of beer and food, and the four featured brews will knock your hops off!

Join us for another instalment of the ultimate food pairing challenge! Returning beer champion Cicerone Don Farion (BierCraft, Bomber Brewing) will square off against wine expert Michaela Morris from House Wine over a luxurious five course tasting menu created by ARC Executive Chef Alessandro Vianello. Each course will be paired with a selected beer and wine with the dinner guests choosing the winner!

The Rose City is known for two things, one we won’t mention here and the other, of course, BEER! Come join Ben Love of Gigantic, Ben Edmunds of Breakside, Alex Ganum of Upright, Sean Burke of The Commons, Carston Haney of Alameda, Krister Balme of Basecamp, Jaime Rodriguez of Hopworks, Abram Goldman-Armstrong of Cider Riot! and Ben Engler of Occidental for a tap takeover you’ll never forget! Your ticket includes your beer samples, a dinner feature, and some special treats you’ll have to be in the house to find out about!


Feature The ANZA Presents: Craft Beer vs Kyprios & The Chaperones

Wednesday June 4 8:00pm-2:00am 30 (+ taxes & fees)

This powerful evening kicks off with kegs from Phillips, Bomber and Hoyne breweries being tapped, while ticket holders enjoy an open-mic freestyle jam session. During that warm-up, Vancouver hip-hop legend Kyprios and his band will hang out with ticket holders and knock down a few craft-brews before taking the stage and rocking the house. This show will feature two sets, an intermission to catch your breath, and a DJ to help bring this epic night home. Each guest will receive three tickets for 8oz samplers of the featured beers, with additional beers being available for purchase.


Signature Brothers in Hip-Hops

Thursday June 5 6:00-10:00pm 49 (+ taxes & fees)

They are brothers from different mothers, but all sons of the hop. Four Pacific Northwest brewers have teamed up to host a night of Hop-tastic food and drink. Last year saw these brewers each showcase a hop-heavy brew with amazing pub food sampled throughout. This year, each brewer will be bringing their next-gen signature hoppy brew for guests to sample, taste and discuss at The Butcher & Bullock. The night’s featured brewers will be Ben Love of Gigantic Brewery, Gary Lohin of Surrey’s Central City Brewing, Jaime Floyd of Ninkasi brewing, and Graham With of Parallel 49 brewing. We’ll also have our featured home brewer Ryan Elliot on-site that evening to showcase the hobbyist’s point of view. Come down, grab a pint, and meet the Brothers in Hops. Ticket includes all the beers in question along with abundant beer paired food stations. Swag, takeaways and door prizes will be given away throughout the night – don’t miss this epic night of drink & feast.


Feature Cider Rules

Thursday June 5 6:00-9:00pm 15 (+ taxes & fees)

We will be featuring 6 different premium ciders from Anthem, Reverend Nat and Finn River, which will be expertly paired with a different appy / amuse-bouche. The ticket price will include entrance, one cider sample and one appy. Additional samples and appy pairings will range in price. The event will start at 6:00pm and run until 9:00pm, at which time, we will open our doors to the public and host a “cider mingler” with live music.


Feature Portside Samples

Thursday June 5 4:00pm-Late 10 (+ taxes & fees)

Playing off the hip-hop practice of using samples to make songs epic, Portside is sampling the best of what Vancouver has to offer. Sample upcoming products from some of Vancouver’s hottest breweries. Have the opportunity to purchase never been seen before items from Vancouver’s most imminent clothing and shoe stores. All while listening to hip-hops samples played on 45′s by the Stuntman with a late night show by hip-hop dj Flip Out. Come one come all!

After a week of amazing events it’s finally here, the event you’ve all been waiting for, the Signature Event of all Signature Event’s – the VCBW Beer Festival presented by CRAFT Beer Market! We’re going to spend an epic evening showcasing over 70 of the best craft breweries in the industry, from both local and abroad, at the amazing Olympic Village event grounds.
