Steamworks & Brassneck Breweries – Firewalker Smokey Porter Collaboration Beer Review

The old and the new have come together to create something truly different and noteworthy by BC beer standards. Conrad Gmoser, former brewmaster for Steamworks Brewery is now manning the helm at the Brassneck Brewery and has been replaced by Caolan Vaughan. With the new Steamworks brewery in Burnaby up and running these two BC craft brewers met up to meld minds and brew the Firewalker Smokey Porter Collaboration Brew. Coming wrapped in a paper covering this beer shows a fantastic caricature of each brewer and plays tribute to the styles of each brewery. The beer itself pours a deep and dark brown colour letting through a smidgen of light. The aroma is strong with chocolate malts and smoke, lots of smoke. The flavour has a large amount of smoke to it but it still has the depth that one looks for in a porter. toasted malts and chocolate come through beside the beechwood smoke and a delicious rauchbier style. This may not be the biggest smoke available but the blend of flavours is fantastic with the smoke being big but not masking the rest of the beer. If you like smoke this is a fantastic smoked porter that you will need to try before it is all gone

I look forward to their next collaborative work. I just can’t get my taste buds around smoky beers. I am weird.
