Persephone Wee Heavy Scotch Ale Review

Persephone Brewing Co. – Wee heavy Scotch Ale Review

Persephone beer has officially made its way off of the Sunshine Coast and onto the shelves of craft beer retailers in and around Vancouver. One of the first beers to make its way from Gibsons BC across the straight and into your fridge could be the Wee Heavy, a Scotch ale that comes in at 7.5% and is labelled is a classically styled Persephone label. This beer enters the glass a deep copper colour and is topped with a single finger of very finely packed head. The smell is filled with caramel notes and a heaping of malt and a touch of woodiness. The flavour is creamy and smooth with a fairly sweet toasted malt flavour. The malt forward beer has caramel tones and much like the smell has a bit of a woodiness to it. Do not take this as meaning that the beer is barrel aged but rather has some nice earthy tones and a slight sap-like flavour that adds some complexity to this rather delicious beer.

Alcohol – 7.5%
