Swans Brewpub – Coconut Porter Review

Swans Brewpub and the Buckerfield’s Brewery out of Victoria BC has brewed up a porter with a twist of Coconut. This style of beer is not a first but is relatively unheard of in recent years within British Columbia. The Swans Coconut Porter pours a very deep brown colour letting only a smidgen of light through. Topped with a thin finger of head which settles rather quickly the beer smells of a fairly typical porter through notes of chocolate and toasted malt. In addition comes a rather smooth and sweet toasted coconut tone that is rather subtle but pleasant. The flavour starts off rather crisp with mild chocolate and toasted flavours. Much like the smell a toasted sweetness builds mi the midsection from the coconut. As this grows a touch of coconut flavour comes into the picture in a slightly creamy and sweet presence. The coconut is quite light but still easy to pick out and makes for a pleasant twist on the porter style.
