Hoyne & Driftwood – Collaboration Rock Bay Mashup Baltic Porter

Driftwood Brewery and Hoyne Brewery are lucky enough to call themselves neighbours and their latest project involved some teamwork. In brewing the Rock Bay Mashup each brewery brewed up their own Baltic Porter then through some rather excessive hoses the transferred the beer from Driftwood to Hoyne and mixed the tow beers into one super-brew. The Rock Bay Mashup is the result of two BC Craft Beer elite brewers teaming up to make something special. This beer pours nearly black in colour with a touch of light sneaking through the glass. Topped with two fingers of fine head the Rock Bay Mashup smells rich with toasted malt, chocolate and a creaminess that lets the mouth water in anticipation. The beer’s texture is slightly heavier than expected with a light creaminess to it. The flavour is big with strong chocolate tones, big malts and a lingering hop bitterness. This beer has more depth than your average Baltic Porter with a touch of what could almost be molasses on the tongue. The Rock Bay Mashup is big, but not over the top. With two of BC’s top brewers at the helm on this one the sum could be considered even greater than the parts!
