Hoyne Brewing Company’s Sean Hoyne does not just release a beer. A product on the retail floor or on tap is the result of countless hours of brewing excellence. With that in mind the release of the new Helios Dortmunder Golden Lager comes with great excitement and expectation. The beer pours a rich golden colour topped with three fingers of fairly thick head. Through this thick top comes the nose of a lightly sweetened, German style lager. The big malt notes and a honey-like sweetness make an aroma the forecasts a delicious and sessionable beer. The flavour is of a big lager with strong, earthy malts along side a mid-level sweetness. This is a very European style beer with big malts and light hops coming in near the finish. The texture is also a little heavier than your traditional north American lager making for a beer that has a little more substance to it. If you are looking for a typical, run of the mill lager this is not it. If you are looking for a big craft creation that brings German brewing tradition to British Columbia then give the Helios from Hoyne Brewing a try. It will not disappoint.
