Phillips Brewing Co. – Benefit Brew – Blood Orange Wit Review

The Benefit Brew is back in 2014 from the Phillips Brewing Company. This year’s charity is the Little People of BC and the beer is a Blood Orange Witbier. This citrus-beer concoction is a cloudy straw coloured Wit that is topped with two fingers of head. As this frothy top settles it leaves a defined film of lacing left clinging to the glass. The smell is of a crisp and fresh Wit but the blood orange adds an extra bit of flair. The light Wit base is melded with citrus, orange, coriander and what resembles the slightest of pineapple. The flavour is light and smooth with a fairly low sweetness level. The orange-citrus notes that were so apparent in the scent are subdued making for a light twist to this Belgian style wheat beer. The thought of a Blood Orange beer is not the most appealing if you don’t love orange but this here is actually quite subtle and as a result quite sessionable and enjoyable. Even if the name throws you off give this beer a try, it is light, easy drinking and a delicious Witbier infusion.

I was actually hoping to hear the blood orange was big and up front. I love big blood orange beer ala Elysian.
