Ethan Allured took the brewing lead at Coal Harbour Brewing in February of 2013 after joining Coal Harbour from the Turning Point Brewery. Ethan entered the BC Brewer’s circle in 2011 after attaining a Diploma in Brewing from the University of California Davis. When Ethan joined Coal Harbour the brewery was already off to a great start but a passion for home brewing and new energy allowed for the brewery to grow with the exploding BC craft beer market.
The Coal Harbour Brewing Company is located in East Vancouver very close to Parallel 49 and Storm Brewing. You may not know this if you walked through the area though as the brewery currently focuses on their keg, can and bottle offerings and does not have a tasting room. This focus is crucial though as being a relatively small brewery it is enough work simply keeping up with the demand for their German style 311 Helles Lager which is currently distributed through BC Liquor Stores and as a result amounts to the majority of their volume.
Despite the focus on the Hell’s Lager their Powell IPA and Smoke and Mirrors ale have been prized through the BC Beer Awards showing that they are contenders in the fight for BC beer supremacy. The staples of the lineup at Coal Harbour have been tweaked and developed over the past year and new beers are on their way. No confirmations have been made but you can expect a new beer to be released very soon out of the books of Ethan’s home brewing past.
The Coal Harbour Brewing Company has been open for two years as of November 11th but has already made a great impact on the BC Craft Beer industry taking home several awards and entering into the bc government distribution network. Watch for existing beers to make an even greater impact moving forward and for new product offerings to broaden then already sterling line of staple beers.
