Granville Island Brewing – The Pumpkining Pumpkin Ale Review

In the procession of pumpkin beer releases Granville Island Brewery has released the Pumpkining as a part of the Black Note Book line of brewmaster Vern’s craft specialties. This burnt orange coloured ale is topped with 2+ fingers of relatively quick-to-settle head. The smell is lightly spiced with fall inspired, pumpkin pie-like scents and a lightly toasted caramel flavour. The flavour is light yet hearty. A creamy texture hits the palate building into an earthy, mild pumpkin mid-section. Around the middle, caramel tones come into play and highlight the pumpkin and light nutmeg tones from the spice mixture. The finish is fairly sweet with light pumpkin notes that linger before trailing off. Overall this is a fairly sweet seasonal ale that has defined tones of pumpkin spice but let the beer shine and work together with the spice to complete the whole package.
