Longwood Brewery – Berried Alive Raspberry Ale Review

Compared to many Raspberry Ales the Berried Alive from The Longwood Brewery looks relatively normal. Pouring a crisp amber colour this ale has a single finger of head that has decent lacing that grasps the glass. While the appearance is of a typical amber ale the aroma is full of fruit. A Raspberry sweetness engulfs the nostrils along side a slight toasted scent and the slightest of hops. The main stage is all Raspberry with this beer but does not have the tart cider-ness that some comparable ales may feature. The taste is not as sweet as you may expect but still packs a fruity punch. The Berried Alive builds from the start with both a balanced amber style ale and a raspberry seasonal flavour. As far as raspberry beers go the sweetness is there but does not evolk a diabetic coma, the actual beer does not distract from the berry-front but allows a mellowness and beer-ness to trickle through and make for a fairly drinkable and enjoyable summer, fruit beer. This still may not be for everyone but Longwood’s creation sits atop a tall stack of Raspberry Beers.

Maybe the keg that my pint came from had turned or the lines were dirty because I could barley finish my pint of this. Was a real downer ad I was only having one pint.

This was a fantastic beer! I had it given to me for a gift, it went down easy and loved the raspberry. I Just wish I had two.
