Longwood Brewery – Stoutnik Russian Imperial Stout Review

Longwood Brewery beers don’t show up on the shelves of craft retailers often but the Stoutnik Russian imperial has recently made its way to select retailers. Coming in a Black bottle while it is currently summer you may want to age this extra-strong beer for a colder day. Pouring a deep-brown, close to black colour three fingers of coffee colored head billow from the bear and leave strong signs of lacing on the glass. The smell is of chocolate, coffee, molasses and a touch of alcohol. The taste is bold with toasted malts, chocolate and coffee tones coming through strong. A touch of molasses adds to the flavour profile building up to a finish of hop-bittered coffee. For a Russian Imperial stout there is little to no boozyness to the flavour and it goes down much easier than expected. As a Stout that has the complex flavours of an imperial without the booziness that comes with it this is an excellent example of what the BC Craft Beer Scene and more specifically the Longwood Brewery is all about. Great beer that remains unique and of course delicious.
