Whistler Brewing Co. – Cheakamus Chai Maple Ale Review

The Whistler Brewing Company is known for being creative in their beer recipes and nothing quite exemplifies this like a Chai Maple Ale. That is right, all you Chai Tea, Non-Fat Misto Extra Whip Starbucks lovers now have a beer that represents your socially awkward drink choices. All kidding aside, Whistler Brewing has in fact come up with something pretty creative here. Dark brown in colour the Cheakamus Chai Maple pours with three fingers of off-white head. Through this comes smells of maple, caramel and chai. These familiar and fond smells are oddly reminiscent of a childhood love for Maple Crunch Shreddies. Despite the name and smell, the flavour is somehow still surprising with strong notes of maple syrup, chai, caramel and toasted malt followed by a smooth, light and dessert-sweet finish. This is definitely different from the norm and may turn a few noses in the tasting process but I say give it a try. It is very unique, dessert-like and who knows you may just happen to love it!
