Steamworks Brewing Co. – Frambozen Rasberry Ale Review

You can be sure summer has arrived once the raspberry beers start arriving. From Steamworks Brewing comes the Frambozen, a mild ale that uses raspberries, Pale and Munich Malts with Mt. Hood Hops. This Ruby red coloured beer is topped with two fingers of very quickly dispersing head leaving the glass clear of lacing. The smell is sweet and sour with strong raspberry tones taking charge in a raspberry juice like aroma. The beer is listed at 7% alcohol but that does not come through in the smell. The taste is crisp and refreshing, a raspberry tone comes in early with a mild llambic like flavour being fairly sour. If you don’t like sour beers don’t worry though as before anything too intense comes along the sour flavour builds into a raspberry sweetness for the finish. While the beer starts off sour it ends in a lightly sweetened raspberry flavour. While some raspberry beers can come off a little jelly-like this has the sour flavours to balance it out and make for a fairly drinkable and refreshing fruit-inspired beer.

I have still not tried this beer. It sounds quite tasty though and I may have to pick up a bottle!
