Nelson Brewing Company – Black Heart Organic Oatmeal Stout Review

Another organic beer has come out of the Nelson Brewing Company and it is an Oatmeal Stout called the Black Heart. A deep brown colour lets a smidgen of light through the dark hue while the head pours a full two fingers thick. As the off-white head settles, notes of chocolate, toasted malt and a hop bitterness come through strong. The taste is starts off more crisp than you may expect for and Oatmeal Stout lacking the smooth and creamy notes often attributed to the style. Chocolate, coffee and malt flavours are apparent but the main event is hops. For an Oatmeal Stout this is very bitter featuring massive English-style hop tones. The flavour is enjoyable and unique but if you are a stickler for tradition you may find this a little too far on the bitter end of the spectrum

Alcohol – 5.7%

Screw tradition. Traditions have hurt so many people over the years. Lol
