Vancouver Island Brewing Co. – Absolute Darkness India Dark Ale Review

Just in time for IPA Season, Vancouver Island Brewing has released something a little different. Coined as an India Dark Ale the Absolute Darkness is new for 2013. Like the Steamworks Pumpkin Ale this beer sports a glow in the dark label to help you find it when the power goes out. With 2+ fingers of off white head this dark brown, opaque ale has smells of chocolate, coffee and of course a strong hop bitterness. The flavour starts off mellow with a smooth and full bodied flavour. Chocolate and coffee build in intensity, leading to the hop bittered finish with notes of lingering coffee. The overall taste is smooth, full bodied and delicious. The bitterness of the hops balances well with the coffee and chocolate flavours giving a well balanced and very enjoyable India Dark Ale.

Alcohol – 6.5%
