Phillips Brewing Co. – Hammer Barrel Aged Imperial Stout Review

Phillips recently released two versions of the Hammer, The second is of the Barrel aged variety. Pouring a deep, dark brown with three fingers of head the Hammer Barrel Aged smells of dark chocolate and has light bourbon notes. Comparing this to other Russian Imperials the Hammer actually smells quite light. The flavour in this is actually quite similar to the standard issue. The barrel aging process must have been brief as what can often be overpowering is really more of a subtlety. This is the easiest drinking of the Barrel Aged beers I have had in 2012/2013 but because of this it seems simple in comparison. If you are not usually for something in this categorization, give it a try – You might just like it!
