Powell St. Craft Brewery – East Vancouver’s Newest Nano-Brewery

The Powell St. Brewery was one of the new Craft Brewers to open up in BC during 2012. Categorized as a nano-brewery this husband-wife team of beer enthusiasts are making quick work in establishing their BC beer footprint.

The largest issue right now for this brewing team is quantity. Currently looking to double their capacity, when you make your way down to the brewery do not be surprised if you find that someone has beat you to the punch and they are out of several options. Brewing up an IPA, Pale Ale and a Porter, the selection will come back soon but keeping up with local demand is seemingly a futile effort. Non being able to meet the quantities being requested is not the worst problem for a start-up but with 9 new BC breweries aiming to open their doors soon this team will have to invest in order to keep relevant in an exploding craft beer scene.

On the instance where I stopped in to say hello, the Old Jalopy Pale as was on tap and in bottles. The other two listed beers were absent but promised to soon return. Tasting the Pale on tap then later in bottles both were a crisp, smooth and a mid-hopped ale. The beer poured on-site was slightly smoother than the bottled version but both are definitely recommended.

This brewery is small but don’t let that fool you. The Powell St. Brewery knows that they are doing and are a step up in getting this small brewery making a big difference. For the time being you will have to stop by the East Vancouver Brewery in order to get your fix but if their expansion plans pan out, you could see this beer at your local pub or craft beer retailer soon.
