STANLEY PARK BREWERY LAUNCHES NEW BELGIAN STYLE DARK ALE “BRUN” IN VANCOUVER

Now Available: Stanley Park Brun, a New Seasonal Dark Ale Available

Exclusively in to British Columbia this Winter

Vancouver, BC (December 3, 2012) – Stanley Park Brewery is proud to introduce the latest addition to its family of craft beer: Stanley Park Brun, a new, Belgian style Dark Ale available exclusively in British Columbia. This limited seasonal release is specifically crafted to enjoy during the cool winter months in BC and is an ideal match for hearty meat dishes or as a perfect complement for chocolate or cheese. Brun is the latest from Stanley Park Brewery, a one hundred percent locally owned and operated brewery.

Following in the footsteps of its siblings – Stanley Park 1897 Amber Ale and Stanley Park Noble Pilsner – Stanley Park Brun is an authentically crafted, Belgian style Dark Ale. In development for over six months, this beer delivers a rich, dark colour with distinctive dried fruit aromatics. It derives its unique dark character and distinctive malt taste by adhering to the classic Belgian traditions of brewing well-balanced winter ales, a process originally perfected by Belgian Trappist monk’s centuries ago.

“It is incredibly difficult to craft a beer of this quality and style if your intent is to remain true to is authentic taste and Belgian heritage,” says Andy Murison, Vice President of Marketing for Mark Anthony Brands. “Our Brew Masters traveled to Belgium numerous times to learn from their master brewers and to gather inspiration from more than 600 years of tradition. The result is a beer that is unique and true to Stanley Park Brewery while celebrating the essence and heritage of the Belgian original.”

Brun is well-balanced and very approachable, made with a precise blend of Crystal, Pilsner and  Munich malts. The unique brewing process in a state-of-the-art five-vessel brew house delivers an  exceptionally clean style of beer. This results in a large, lingering head with complex chocolate, roasted nut, and malt biscuit flavours. Unlike some of the traditional styles which can carry up to 8 or 9 percent alcohol by volume, Stanley Park Brun is more approachable with 5.1 per cent alcohol by volume.
“Every step in the brewing process has been meticulously designed to deliver the best possible beer and treat it with the respect that it deserves,” says Murison. “We only use the finest ingredients to produce a completely natural, unpasteurized, and sustainably brewed range of beers. This is a unique point of distinction for Stanley Park Brewery – and one which we are extremely proud.”

Stanley Park Brun is the perfect beer to pair with hearty meat dishes, such as lamb stew, or with beef and even game. For those with a sweet tooth, pair Stanley Park Brun with a fresh brownie or chocolate pudding and notice how the rich cocoa flavours complement the beer. Even cheeses are delicious with this brew, especially mild cheddar!

Residents of British Columbia are already well attuned to seasonality and seeking out seasonally crafted beers is a well-established pastime during the cooler months. Fall and winter beers tend to be darker and fuller flavored, as opposed to spring and summer beers that are typically lighter in colour and flavor. Dark Ales are leading the way within the craft beer category and have hit a chord with beer drinkers across the province.

Stanley Park Brun is available now in draught at more than 30 venues across BC and is now available in limited quantities in packaged format at retail liquor stores across the province. It makes a guest appearance in our annual Founders Crate which hits the shelves in BC Liquor Stores December 3, a perfect Christmas gift for the local beer lover.
