Granville Island Brewing – Lions Winter Ale Review

Granville Island Brewing has been making a winter ale for some time now and the Lions Winter Ale is as iconic as the skyline of the Lions themselves here in Vancouver. This beer comes into the glass with a finger of head in the form of a chestnut-brown colour. The aroma is filled with vanilla, clove, nutmeg and caramel. These same notes come through strong in the flavour giving a sweet, spiced and very smooth flavour with a mid-hop backing. The taste is rather sweet and relatively heavy so a six-pack may not be on the menu but to have a couple on a cold winter’s evening is a great taste experience. This classic winter ale is something to look forward to with every falling leaf and every minute of daylight lost in the approaching winter season.
