Phillips Brewing Co. – Crooked Tooth Pumpkin Ale (2012) Review

The Crooked Tooth is a “pumpkin” coloured ale that pours with a thick and relatively creamy head. The smell is light and floral with nutmeg and pumpkin floral notes. The aroma is quite mild and the taste is surprisingly similar to the smell. While this is clearly pumpkin, or should I say pumpkin pie it is not overly sweet or overpowering contrary to my preconceptions. The flavour is quite consistent from start to finish leaving the palate with a taste of spiced pumpkin. There are some wheat notes apparent despite a lacking of wheat on the ingredients list. Overall this is a unique, spicy and flavourful beer that is pleasant and neutral despite the obscurity of a pumpkin beer.
