Russell Brewing Co. – 6.26 Anniversary Scotch Ale Review

The Russell Anniversary Scotch ale pours a deep reddish-brown hue with a mid-thick head. The beer smells of a peaty-nuttyness with a backing of the Scotch Ale flavour. The taste hits the tongue light and builds into a flavourful scotch aged brew. The scotch does not overpower the malt in this beer like barrel aging tends to do. This particular beer’s scotch notes actually fade into a smokey nut flavour that leaves the palate relatively neural and pleasant. For a beer that tends to be quite harsh Russel has done a great job of holding onto the brew’s classic notes while making a very drinkable and enjoyable beer.
