If you didn’t know before, a Heather Ale is a traditional Scottish Ale that dates back some 4000 years. The Heather flowers adds a very light bitterness to the beer and a depth to the flavour different from a hops and malt style ale. The Saltspring Heather has a mild honey flavour and a touch of floral notes. With a few hops making it into the mix this beer finishes off with a crisp, slightly bitter finish. This beer is pleasant, refreshing and extremely easy to drink. Brewed by the Gulf Islands Brewing Company under the name of Saltspring Island Ales this is not an easy beer to find but if you do grab one and give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

I’m 63 and have drank beer all over the world. And the good thing is, That’s all I drink (well, maybe it’s not such a good thing if you ask my wife) but at least it’s an uncorrupted taste. Now I like lagers and ales, pales and the same. I grew up in Bavaria and don’t think I have to tell you that my beer taste my be tainted towards pilsner, When I came back to Canada In 1970 you can imagine what kind of beer was offered. The only beer I could stomach was Labattes blue. I know, I know. We had shitty beer.
Now imagine this, a small south pacific island, Roratonga brewed their own beer, with all naturally grown ingredients and made one of the most perfect balanced beers i have ever had. And then, another island in the pacific brews an almost identical beer. I my be wrong, but I detect a faint hint of lemon rind and to me that adds a cleanliness to the mouth and adds to the back taste of the beer. I’ve had your pale ale and it is good but your golden ale is one outstanding beer. It’s odd, though, my two favourite beers are 6500 and 2.5 miles away, I live in Crofton. By the way, would you consider a visit by me to your operation?
