Cannery Brewing Co. – Naramata Nut Brown Ale Review

One of the long time staples and Okanagan favourite beers from Penticton BC’s Cannery Brewing is the Naramata Nut Brown Ale. Named after the Naramata Bench North-East of Pentiction this is a flavourful and iconic beer for the area. This Cannery brew pours a fairly dark brown colour which is still rather transparent to the light. The top of the beer is crested with a single finger of settling head. The aroma coming from the Naramata Nut Brown is of toasted malts, chocolate and of course a certain nutty tone. The beer has a slightly creamy mouthfeel with a solid malt base. The chocolate tones are rather big for the style and the nutty flavour helps to smooth everything out. A slight mettallic flavour comes into play as well before a lightly hopped, lingering chocolate finish takes over. This is a classic, flavourful beer that has won the hearts and palates of the Okanagan and may do the same to you soon.

Naramata Nutbrown was the first of the great craft beers in Penticton and it continues to hold its own as “old reliable” for most occasions. An early sign that Ron Dyck was going places with his brand….still the best in town by a head.
